Pre-surgery candidates, such as those undergoing neck, shoulder, back, hip and knee surgeries, who have never tried structural bodywork are surprised with the effect it has on their health issues. Many times surgery addresses the symptom but not the cause, which leaves the structure at risk of re-injury. A number of clients have reconsidered having surgery once the muscles and fascia have been released.
Undergoing surgery also leaves side affects, including scar tissue buildup, constricted and bound-up fascia as a result of cutting into the skin, fascia and muscle tissue. If left untreated, these restrictions cause a reduced circulation of waste products and blood in and out of the cells as well as restricted movement and flexibility.
Post surgery candidates include those who are rehabilitating from an injury and are using crutches or casts, which put their bodies in positions they are not accustomed to. Crutches or casts create irregular body posture and weight-bearing patterns that may set up future injuries.
