It is often said, "If your feet hurt, you will hurt all over!" This is so true. If your feet are not acting as a strong foundation, your body is in trouble.

Feet provide shock absorbers, and without a solid stance the structure of the knees, hips, SI joint and neck would be compromised. A fallen arch, particularly the medial arch, is being studied as a possible cause of Fibromyalgia, and extensive foot pronation is correlated to migraine headaches.

Also, just as important as a strong foot foundation, is the supporting lower leg muscles that keep the arches strong. Bone spurs, bunions, and fallen arches are a few of the conditions that can arise from lower leg, ankle and foot issues. Conditions include Plantar Fascitis, which is the most common cause of foot pain in athletes because of overuse and stress on the plantar fascia.

To prevent injuries to your lower leg, try to avoid overtraining, poor techniques, running on hard or uneven surfaces, trauma to the leg and improper footwear.
